hello all i have had my fiero since 1992 and have heard too may ways to store the fieros to properly decide what to do.... so please lend any ideas and tips/tricks..

1) tires leaving them on may cause them to square.. so do we leave them on or off???
2) taking tires off and putting up on jack stands i heard will ruin the suspention.. so again tires on or off?
3) battery in or out... i do leave mine in with a low amp plug in batt charger.. some take it right out???
4) starting it monthly i leave my batt in so i can start it up once a month to move the fluids?? good or bad??
5) i put in fuel stabalizer to keep the gas good til spring.. do we go with a full or close to empty tank?? gasline antifreeze??

anyway any ideas as to whats best for our baby's until spring would be great...

A lot of your questions depend on whether or not you are storing it in a heated place, I will answer the ones I think I know (however someone might know more then me)

3) if you have heated storage you can leave it in the car (or take it out) but if it is not heated storage then I suggest taking it out. Either way you should put a battery tender on it.
4) starting it monthly won't matter that much if it is just stored for the winter, if you plan on storing it longer then yes I suggest starting it every so often to ensure that the seals don't dry up.
5) again if you have heated storage then gas line anti-freeze is not needed. In the past I usually go with whatever fuel I have in the car but you should have plenty in it. I would not want to have it bone dry, especially if you are putting an additive in it.

I posted a link on this site a few years back that really covered eveything.  But the problem was most of us (or all) don't go though that much trouble when storing.  This is the thread and the link still works.

http://www.fierodrivers.com/forum/index.php?topic=2075.0

If you don't want to go though all that trouble here is a short list that I have developed from hating the long ritual which I never have time for.

1. fill the tank up after putting in stableizer.
2. pump up the tires to 40 or 45 lbs
3. I use a syringe to pull out all the brake fluid in the clutch master and the brake master and put in fresh fluid.  Use DOT 3 for Ford (higher temp boiling point).  Do not use DOT 4 or DOT 5.  They don't hold near as much moisture till saturation.
3. change engine oil
4. (Optional) pull the spark plugs and put a teaspoon of engine oil in each cylinder.  Pull the fuse for the computer (and fuel pump).  Turn over the motor a few times then put the spark plugs back in.
5. pull one of the battery terminals and put a slow charger, smart charger on the battery.
6. plug the tailpipe(s) and put mothballs in the trunk area, engine bay and especially the front storage compartment.

If your good that whole thing takes less than an hour including gassing up.

In the spring all you have to do is.

1. Re-connect the battery
2. use a syringe to remove and replace the brake fluid again.  Bleed the brakes (I use a solo bleeder, and leave the car on the ground.  It takes about 5 minutes
3. put the fuse back for the computer (ECU/ECM)
4. warm up the car and change the oil again.
5. inspect your systems.  You never know what might spring a leak or what kind of animal made a home while you were away.

Your good to go.

Aaron

Your only limitations are set from within, by a lack of vision.  But to have vision alone leaves the process idle.  Ergo, without action your thoughts are worthless.
