Headlight...

So my left headlight has dropped...
now i know the 88s headlights are different from the rest, but what's the easiest / best way to fix it. its on the drivers side and its a pain to have to lift it manually when need be.
finally i have some of the extra horse power i've been looking for with a chip and performance with new rims and tires... then the light goes...
well i hope someone can help me out

It's likely the parts inside the gear. If you open up the mechanism you will see what's going on.
Mine did the same thing. I replaced the broken inner part with rubber. There are many write-ups about this. Try doing a few searches on a couple forums and you'll have a good idea how to do the fix.

well i have an 84 so this may not be totally accurate for you BUT.....
look for a single black wire with a connecter in the middle.. unplug that wire and it will stop the motor from working.. now that will leave the light in the up position, light on or off.. now i know that looks horrible.. so.. for permanent fix.. pull out the whole motor and light..
remove the motor part.. and you will have to drill out the rivits.. to open the housing..
the main problem is the big gear looses teeth and will start to grind.. but the good thing is, that large gear only turns 180* so to fix that.. you just rotate that large gear until the stripped part is not being used to move the light and it will solve the problem.. now you will have to go to Home depot.. and get small nuts and bolts. to close the houseing..
the only other is to buy(on ebay) a new replacement gear.. both will work great
have fun with that,,

Fiero-Joe, 84-86 headlight system is different from 87-88, but you solution is the one for 84-86.
With 87-88, usually, it is the 3 bushings.
Rodney sell everything you need for 87-88:

You can sometime find those bushing on eBay.

now more than a month after the fix, the headlights stay down. I got the metal gears and it seems like a jam, because i can get them down by loosening the motors by hand then completing the rest with the motor.
anyone else have this problem?

Is the motor hard to turn by hand?
Sounds like the motor is stopping like if the mecanism was completely down.
