My new toy is getting all new poly bushings and also needs rear struts, my question is are coil overs worth all the extra cost and trouble. I am not looking for major handling improvements but do like the idae of being able to adjust the ride height for different types of driving.
On my last car I just used stock replacement struts to replace the 20 some year old ones and they worked nice with a nice smooth ride but I am thinking of going a little better this time around. The Fiero store has some decent deals on struts and with the dollar being in decent shape it is a good time for buying from the states so I am alos considering going with a set of KYB's and possible 1 inch drop springs. Anny opinions will be appreciated. Dan

Do you have any plans for messing with wider tires in the rear?

Switching to coil-overs will open the door to more combinations of width & offset fitting in there without that big ol' OEM spring seat getting in the way.

Well the 235/55-16's I have right now seem to have traction issues so I would end up going with a little wider if I go with coil overs.
Right now you can not get your finger between the top of the tire and the strut so that is as wide as I can go right now.
I see west coats Fieros sells a kit for $220 that goes on stock struts that can have the perched shaved down a little for clearance.
Biggest problem is where to buy the parts to build a decent set of coil overs with out dealing with places like WCF's. Dan

I built my adjustable coil-over using Gabriel struts, that I "skinned" and a kit for 89-93 Ford Mustang front adjustable coil-over (7 inches sleeve). I used 12 inches 250 pounds springs. The strut heads and mounts are original 88 Fiero parts. I did not used the bearing and small washer, they are needed when install in front.

I have 1 inch lowering ball join in the front and adjustable Chapman rear strut.

The car is a modified Formula.

How is the ride?

I ask, because I put 375 lb springs on the back of mine when I did my conversion.

I'm debating going with coil overs as well. I'm thinking of Auto Xing mine so I'm looking at doing a major handling upgrade.

The ride is a little bit harder but I love it.

I have poly all around so the car drives like a go-cart.

250lb springs in the rear?Huh I don't know your car but have you an engine in there? Mine, albeit a pig of an SBC, is wearing 425lb rear, 250lb up front! Yes, it's a little tight, but makes for a gokart on steroids! With the car so wide.... there is NO lean!
best,
Sandy
