My Fiero wont start...

I was just doing some work on my plenum and when i put it back on the car would not start.

I took the Plenum off to paint it. I also removed the distributor, and some electrical plugs going to the cap, and to the fuel injectors. I put it all back together right and I know the spark plugs are back in the right place.

the engine turns over and I smell fuel, but there is no ignition for some reason.

I might change the cap and rotor to be safe, but it worked fine before, so im just confused.

I did go into the fuel pressure system and relieve some fuel when I was fiddling around with the intake manifold....
Could I have screwed up the system by releasing some fuel pressure?

If you have spark at the plugs, double- and triple-check at the distributor rotor is pointing at plug wire #1 when the timing mark on the crank pulley is at the 0° pointer on the block.

If you have no spark at the plugs, re-check your connections at the distributor & coil, in particular:

• pickup coil-to-ignition module
• ignition module-to-coil

The two wire harness which runs between the ignition coil & the module is notorious for becoming loose or sufficiently corroded for the connection to fail.

I tested both my coil and distributer. They are both working according to my ohm meter.

there seems to be current running to my coil and distributer. I checked that wire too and it looks fine and has current.

I tested my cap and I have not been getting a current through it so maybe it is just the cap... I can't be sure though until I buy a new one. I am gonna check again to see if there is a spark but its something i need someone else here to help me with and im usually home alone all day and at work when my parents r home.

You would probably find a remote start trigger handy.

Really all you need are a couple of long 10- or 12-gauge wires, a pair of alligator clips, and a normally open push-button switch with moderately heavy contacts.  Connect the switch between the battery lug and the trigger terminal on the starter motor, and you can activate the starter from within the engine compartment.
