Appraisals

Does anyone happen to know of an appraiser in the Carleton Place/Perth/Almonte etc. area who either makes house calls or who would issue an appraisal based on a description and photographs?

We tried to complete the ownership transfer of the Fiero Fomerly Known as Barney last weekend, only to discover that the greedy government requires an appraisal for any vehicle over 20 years old.   

FFKB however is currently tarped and surrounded by other non-running Fieros.  The principle of moving everything around (again), then paying for a two-way tow simply so that Queen's Park can receive a pittance of sales tax pisses me off to no end.

  Does the appraisal need to be done now? When I did mine I was given the policy and instructed where to have it done to complete the process.

It depends...

While I don't particuarly like loose ends, as far as I'm concerned a signed-off ownership and bill of sale constitutes a change of ownership regardless of whether or not the bean counters at the MTO have been made aware of the change.

In other words, if I have to dick around with non-running parked cars merely for the purpose of making room to manoever a tow truck, paying for towing in two directions, and paying for an appraisal just to gain the dubious privilege of having the MTO recognize the change in ownership of a project car which will likely not see the road for at least a couple of years, the paperwork for FKKB is simply going to remain in a safe place until we actively do something with the car.

On the other hand, I believe there's a legal requirement to register the change of ownership within 6 days of the sale.

  Sorry, I'm a little slow on the uptake. So you bought FKKB and now thoses lieing Liberal dastards want you to have an appraisal on the value of the car so they can tax you accordingly. I seem to remember something like that when I purchased mine. I bought mine through a local dealer and it was done there so it wasn't a big deal. Perhaps you could speak with some local dealers to come and appraise the car. Allowing you to jump through the legislative hoops and give your last pitance to the Province. [sarcasm] If you have a hobby car you must have money, and free time, you should get rid of these excesses and buy a minivan or better yet a bicycle its more environmentaly friendly and would reduce your carbon footprint. [/sarcasm]

I used a guy from Grampa's Garage.  He is an appraiser and dove to Carleton Place to appriase my car after I was done with the initial conversion.

Any used car dealer should beable to do it for you. I had it done at a garage that sells used cars when I was getting mine safetied.
