Ok...

My dad owns a 94 Oldsmobile Achieva (4-138 (2.3) MPFI) and he needs an automatic transmission.  I checked on car-part.com and there is two possible for his car.

TH125
and 4T60E

The TH125 is it the same as the Fiero... if it is... I just thru mine in the garbage last week  Embarrassed

and for the 4T60E is it the same as in the 3800 car?

Also, how to find out witch transmission he needs? will the vin code tell?

Thanks

Is this motor a quad 4?  If it is, I believe the bellhousing bolt pattern is different. At least it is in the standards.  It would need an auto from another similar car. At the junkyard, look at it and a 3.1 car.  Most all GM's used the 2 trannies so the yard should have some.

The 125 is a 3 speed auto  ( 1-2-3, no overdrive) The 4T60 is a 4 speed.  Look at his shift indicator to see which he has. (example P-R-N-O-3-2-1, or P-R-N-3-2-1) They may call it 'O' as in O-2-1 and may call 1 "LOW'  Confused?

Call SONSHINE wreckers in Navan.  They're pretty good.  Or Arnprior-Ottawa out the west end.  **********DO NOT GO TO UNION!!!!!!!!! They are crooks.********

Dave's in Carp (they're okay if a bit $$$$)  has a 125 phone 1-800-267-9110

A-O phone is 1-800-267-9110  If you call and explain the motor is a 2.3 they'll tell you whether a 3.1 4T60E will fit or not.  From the listings on car-part I don't think they bolt up the same, but I may be wrong.

My daughter has a 94 Achieva 3.1 4T60E  (the 4T60E is stamped on the tranny pan.

I see UNION has some trannies listed on Carpart.com    FOR THE LOVE OF GOD....don't go to UNION.  Clear?  I've never heard a good comment about them and have been screwed on a couple of little things they brought in broken or unusable.

 Grin  Grin

Me again

Sonshine is fairly close to you and they don't always list everything they have.  Call them to check.  My son's buddy just got a tranny from them.  Get the guy's name who quotes you and wait to see what they say in person...may be different and pick the lowest.   Wink
