Do we want to pursue the making of a small crest/logo?

I've found another guy doing embroidery work.  If we do up a small logo, it can be embroidered on various items and/or done up as a patch or crest which can be sewn on anything.

The design can be a computer format picture.  It must be transformed into a format that the machine can recognize and work with (digitized).  It can be done in any colour or combo that you want, when actually produced. Say we do the logo with words, a small design and a maple leaf (whatever).  The digitized design can identify different parts by code and reproduce thos parts in any desired colour. Separating the elements raises the cost of digitizing a bit but is worth it in the final look.

Steps are:  1. Choose a design.
                  2. Submit it for a quote.
                  3. Have items made up.

The design will be on file and can be done in any quantity & at any time.  If you drop in and want a hat......bang .. done.  No waiting for group orders, etc.

The actual work can be scaled at the time of manufacture.  You can have it small for a cap or larger for your tuning laptop case  or my T-shirt.  The larger the product the more it costs.  The last guy had quoted for say a 2x4 and a 5x8 size or something and we went from there.  Some of the designs have been done for the backs of jackets with incredible detail.  Naturally making a small design bigger will cost some detail over designing  (and dititizing) that large size itself.

Further to this, I'll mention that I had all of this done once.  The digitizing cost was paid by me and only 5 or 6 items were ever done up by anyone.     Needless to say if was a fairly expensive lesson.

That shop went belly up and our design copy was flawed making the file unreadable.

There will be no cost involved to get a quote, but I don't think I'll dash out and pay for it again myself so quickly......................   

If there is an interest, it's a nice way to represent the club.

There are stock fonts and you can do our design on say your t-shirt chest and add your name, or forum name underneath, etc.

Also if you just want a stock design or just lettering, he can do that as well with no extra setup digitizing.

The last guy kept our info and I told him to just do the work for anyone interested, but it can be restricted to 1 buyer or just club members if desired.

Once again Gary seems to be the only one interested in doing things like this for the club. How about we back him up and all decide on a pattern at a GTG and all chip in for the set up costs. That way any one wanting some thing made up can just go to the store and get what ever they want done. Dan

Chances are this could be scanned and converted to vector format and reworked if need be....

or start from scratch!

I think a fresh start with something simple would be best.

I'm not the only one at this, as others have expressed an interest in something to show off with.    I just happened to pass the shop and dropped in.

Maybe a club straight jacket with logo and 'fieromaniac' embossed.  Sizes S - M - L - XL and sleeves available XXXXXXXL only.  Stupid cars.

I think it's a good idea... I had actually been talking to Don about it over the summer, but after seeing how well it seemed to go the last time you tried to do this Gary I didn't think there'd be much point.

Getting badges done up I think would be best... then people can put them on whatever they actually want.

Gary I'd be willing to give a hand with coming up with a design for it.  Maybe we could post pics of possible designs and see which one people prefer.

Should be able to do it with any image.  The machines take a specific format thats usually been converted from some sort of image format in my experience.

I've done this a few times.  If the paper is fresh and you have a good (mine sucks) ink jet printer, you can get fair results.  The image tends to fade and get crackly pretty fast.  The commercial operations use specific ink I suspect as the images are a lot thicker.

Not bad for a small Fiero image with your name on a t-shirt.
