I'm Old.....Tattooed Women

My daughter Mallory has always wanted a tattoo. Mom said no, and my rule was that it be somewhere that could be covered up if need be. Must suck to be the next top model and be rejected because of the swastika tattooed on your forehead. Last winter she went off and got one. Stayed silent until warm weather meant it may be visible, then 'fessed up.
She told me that she would be late getting home Friday from work. She needed to go 'shopping' with her friend. Well, I'm old, but not totally dumb. The telltale signs were all around. Hand drawn pictures of Satan everywhere. Downloaded pictures of unspeakably disfigured people (no offence, Don
).
Well, when I saw her,I said "where'd you get your new tattoo at?" Surprised look on her face.......
I'll see if I can get a pic. At least it will be useful to the CSI guys at some point. Linda pointed out that some of the old ladies in the hospital are showing up with grotesque tattoos on boobs dangling down around their knees. Sounds sexy to me.
I'm tattoo free, mostly because I've only had about 40 years to choose one and can't decide. I'm almost big enough to get a 1:1 Fiero tattooed on my belly.
Anyone else like to admit to moving to the 'dark side'.

No offense taken, Gary. Some people like blue rare steak, others prefer their beef cremated. That's life. Member of the "dark side" for almost 10 years, I have been.
I have four tattoos at the moment, with the desire for at least two more. I just have to get off my lazy butt and find an artist with the right "touch" for the next one.
Just like some people can tune a carbureator with their eyes closed but won't go near that fancy fuel-injected nonsense, I need someone with a flare for a particular type of image.
Though with my luck when I find the artist and have the work done, it'll appear on a decal in Canadian Tire's bling department a year later. That's what happened with the last one.
Tattoos have changed over the last 5-7 years. They used to be only seen on rebelious, "bad" people with an anti-establishment attitude. They have however evolved in to a relatively common form of self-expression; trendy, in some ways.
Naturally this tends to set the teeth of a significant number of baby-boomers on edge. The current perception of tattoos clashes with they type of person they grew up to associate tattos with, especially when one's children are involved.
I dunno...
There's always going to be one type of personal expression which divides one generation from another and makes the older one say "eew." Case in point, I think the current trend of stretching pierced ears with progressively larger hoops until one's earlobe can brush the collarbone, is just plain fscked up. Oh and bell-bottoms are ugly.

Nothing against them. I've always had friends with them. Some are extremely cool. But it's a forever thing and that makes it a huge decision. Like you said, you've been waiting for the right opportunity, artist, style, etc. It's just that I have definate feelings of what looks 'right' Especially on the opposite gender.
I prefer a personal small tattoo, hidden when socially expected. Should have some sort of meaning to the owner (other than your present mate's name), and hold up emotionally and visually over time.
I tend to cringe when I see a girl (lady, woman, yada, yada) with a huge Firebird style tattoo accross her chest. Or large garish tattoos up the sides of their neck, etc. Probably doesn't mean they're a bad person, but it's like adding underglow lights to your Fiero (oops!).
Mallory's are plain b&w types, neither is particularly tiny. But they can be covered with a large shirt (or horse blanket) if need be. She did the drawings herself based on bits of other work, which adds a personal touch. I think they look fine, but it really doesn't matter in the end what my opinion is.
Kind of reminds me of her high school days when every week she'd appear with more rings stuck in her ears. Thankfully she stuck with the ears and belly button.

I think it looks rather nice.
That being said, I'm not sure her grandchildren will think much of it when it is all wrinkled and covered in hair.
Cheers, Derek
PS Tattoo free...but was once considered getting one.

Stars are cool! Always will be.
What kind of art are you looking for Don?
I've done some black and white stuff in the past. The images have been resised because they are 32 meg's each. So a bunch of detail has been lost.

Go to any college or even some high schools and look at the area of the lower back on a lot of the girls and you will see tattos. Personally I like them just on other people, not for me and I do agree that they should be some where that it is possible to hide if necessary. Dan

I was always against tattoos until this summer. My wife finally convinced me to go check at a tattoo shop in Cavendish (PEI), where I was camping this summer for a month. Being a volunteer firefighter, I was looking for something that represents firefighting. Saw one, but I wanted a personal touch. So the artist added a helmet with my initials.
So this is my story and this is the final product.
Located on my left calf...
BTW: My wife has one, and hoping to get another one soon....

I've got a bunch already, all in places I can hide if I want to. Neither of my parents were terribly impressed when I started getting the ink done, but then again my Dad didn't talk to me for a week after I got my nose pierced. There both fine with it now, which made things easier for my sister when I took her to get her first tattoo
There are about 3 more tattoos I'd like to get, but I'm not in a rush to get those.

Ahhh, gotcha. Yep there's a definite line (at least for some people) between "feminine" and, for lack of a better word, "butch."

A head & neck shot of a horse, with the head slightly turned and gazing more or less at the viewer instead of off to the side like a simple profile shot. Full color, with a light background of rolling hills. I have the image in my head and a few prints at home which are close, but lack the ability to doodle it up.
Then I just have to find someone who can work a tattoo gun who won't make it look like a cartoon.
A few years ago there was a young guy working weekends at a (now closed) shop in Carleton Place. Amazingly detailed, very fine work. The two tats he did for me make the other two look like crayon drawings.

So you are looking for a portrait artist, that does tattoos! That’s going to be hard to find I think. A good one anyway. However, I may be able to help you get it all put together, if you want.

a freind of mine said something that i thought was pretty good regarding tatoos
he has one tat and already regrets it and he is 22.
basically he said why get a tat when you can just as easily carry around a picture of whatever you want, its the same thing, but when you no longer want it you can just throw it away
