tire sizes

Any one know just what size tires I can get away with on 16"X7" with an off set of 38. Was thinking along the way of 225/50-16's as they are close to the same over all diameter of the 225/60-15's I have now. Or would a set of 235/50-16's fit on the rear and clear the struts. Also would a set of 225/50-16's fit ok on the front. Dan

You don't want to go wider on the front Dan, unless you have no want for correcting the oversteer problem. I'm told that 245 and some makes of 255 will fit on the rear with a 35mm offset rim. Different tire manufaturers have different side wall construction. Some people have problems with the 255's though.
You really shouldn't have a problem with the 235's on the rear. Front is a different story.

I was thinking of going 235/50-16's on the rear and 215/60-16's on the front. What do you think about that combination. Dan

The Beretta rims are 16x7 with 42 offset. I have 225 front (they were free) and 235/50 in the back. I do have the home brew coilovers. I haven't noticed any steering problems yet.
You can take a sample home to try if you wish.

The proper combination for your swap Dan is probably 205 front and 255 rear.
Tell me what your weight distribution is front to rear and I'll tell you exactly.

Total weight of car was 2960 lbs with it being 41% at the front and 59% at the rear. Thanks Dan

Okay well that's a lot farther off that my 46-54 split.
So for a 41-59 weight distribution you need 205's on the front and 195 on the rear. Should feel really nice in the corners after that. I know that you can't go that wide so just go as wide as you can in the rear and keep the stock in the front.

I ended up going with 225/50-16's on the rear and 205/60-16's on the front. Dan
