well after a bunch of flip flops on the issue I am going to put in a larger alum rad after all.  It is a long story.....
So this rad is in good shape; worked well when the 2.8 was in and running so I dont think there would be any probs.  Doesn't 'seem' to be loaded with any sort of build-up which might be indicated by a weight imbalance..... and the fluid was nice and clean and clear.
