Any one no what the wire is for that run along the front of the motor there a small plastics protection  cover just over the timming chain cover it the wire runs in around to the back it really hard to trace mine is cut everything seem to work excepted my temp/ gage  it blk/blk

Any no what sensor switch operates the temp gage

BTW I have a 84 se 2.4
any have the chance to change the timming chain cover any special i should no :'(

I redid all my wiring, but I cannot remember all the parts it plugs to...I would have to see what you are talking about to know what it is...  (This is Chris, I got the same car basically)  I am sure gary might now, maybe Nick?Huh

I'm gonna throw one out there and say the temp gauge gets it's reading from the temp sensor. Tongue  not the temp switch (that operates the fan and the idiot light)

blk /blk ? humm. that just sounds like a ground.. doupt that is your problem... but grounding it off to a good source is a safe thing to do.

Your problem is the temp sensor on the side of the cyl head near the coolant fill spount. contacts are either corroded or the temp sensor is shot. The engine also uses this reading for fuel mixture.. you must get a check engine light? or poor fuel millage?
