Steering column parts

Is it possible to purchase individual components of a steering column from either GM or a rebuilder, or are they only ever sold as a unit?
The piece which links the ignition lock cylinder to the rod which actuates the ignition switch has failed. I had a spare column which is now in the car, but I'm trying to determine whether it's possible to fix the broken one or not.

...and buyer beware, if you ever need one of these things don't bother trying to order it through CTC (even though they stock many other Motormite parts).
Apparently it's a "special order" piece. So no only is there a 10% "handling" charge added to the normal retail price, but the supplier they use won't ship on any order under $150.

YMMV.
No handling fee was mentioned by anyone at the parts counter, but I was pleasantly informed about it when I reached the cash register.
