I was doing the front brake pads on the Jimmy yesterday evening. Of course I don't have a C-clamp large enough to fit over the caliper and push the piston back in. After trying to pry it back (thanks Haynes) and other frustrating attempts, I did a garage search (inside joke

).
What I located was the top section of a jack post. One of those steel things in the basement that holds your house up, usually right where you need to make a pool shot or something. It consists of a large threaded piece (about 2" in diameter) and a stepped steel cap for the post. The cap fits perfectly in the caliper and the stepped part is large enough to snag the other side of the caliper. A few easy turns with a screwdriver in the threaded rod and presto ..... it drives the piston back.
I wish every job was so smooth.
Now, where are those pads for that stupid dustbuster style van..... Must be somewhere in the garage.
