OK just need some validation here. The alternator on the 3.1 is a mess 2 stripped holes, retapping didn't work, just stripped again, sooooooooo I'm going to go with a Helicoil approach, looks like it should be the best option, if not the only, suggestions(esp where to get em' Princess Auto barely had any, only for sparkplugs)

  Howdy Steve , great to see you back.
    I have taken my Fall and Winter 2003 Princess Auto catalogue from under the locked plexiglass dome and have opened it to page 415 where at the top left of the page it has thread repair kits. 7/16" - 14 NC tap and insert -8026129- $4.99
  Under that it says they have assorted styles (another part # -8026110-) $4.99
  And it also mentions the sparkplug kit.
  Any of that stuff they can order in for you, just tell them to look in their catalogue, if they have it they can get it.
  I will keep an eye out for you though, what size do you need?Kevin

oh man.....torn threads are the WORST...so annoying!

ESPCIALLY when you cant re-tapp!

Weld a hard steel bolt in the hole, drill and then tapp...see if that works!

never thought I'd say this.. but the Honda gy has a point! Tac weld a bolt in the hole, then that bolt can pass through the alternator then place a nut at the end. Cheesy

so you will now have a stud instead of a hole. Wink

yeah man...my car has no secret powers...my alternator FELL OFF last year and left me with a stripped post. I had to make it home with the battery running the injectors. I'd turn the lights on and my engine would stall...no fuel!

Yeah that was the plan with retapping, and I like it better than the Helicoil. Anyone know someone close the the St Laurent/Queensway area with a welder?

i have had this one before i coil a stud in the hole with lots of looktight ones it there you never have to remove it in thr looktight keep th coil from rusting out it  4 years now in still working
