Title: * * * PLEASE READ & COMMENT * * *
Post by: FieroBUZZ on October 01, 2006, 08:23:09 am
Do we want to pursue the making of a small crest/logo?

I've found another guy doing embroidery work.  If we do up a small logo, it can be embroidered on various items and/or done up as a patch or crest which can be sewn on anything.

The design can be a computer format picture.  It must be transformed into a format that the machine can recognize and work with (digitized).  It can be done in any colour or combo that you want, when actually produced. Say we do the logo with words, a small design and a maple leaf (whatever).  The digitized design can identify different parts by code and reproduce thos parts in any desired colour. Separating the elements raises the cost of digitizing a bit but is worth it in the final look.

Steps are:  1. Choose a design.
                  2. Submit it for a quote.
                  3. Have items made up.

The design will be on file and can be done in any quantity & at any time.  If you drop in and want a hat......bang .. done.  No waiting for group orders, etc.

Forgot the linkie

The actual work can be scaled at the time of manufacture.  You can have it small for a cap or larger for your tuning laptop case  ::) or my T-shirt.  The larger the product the more it costs.  The last guy had quoted for say a 2x4 and a 5x8 size or something and we went from there.  Some of the designs have been done for the backs of jackets with incredible detail.  Naturally making a small design bigger will cost some detail over designing  (and dititizing) that large size itself.

Clear as mud?

Further to this, I'll mention that I had all of this done once.  The digitizing cost was paid by me and only 5 or 6 items were ever done up by anyone.   :-\  Needless to say if was a fairly expensive lesson.

That shop went belly up and our design copy was flawed making the file unreadable.

There will be no cost involved to get a quote, but I don't think I'll dash out and pay for it again myself so quickly......................   :(

If there is an interest, it's a nice way to represent the club.

Hey, I'm on a roll.............   :D

There are stock fonts and you can do our design on say your t-shirt chest and add your name, or forum name underneath, etc.

Also if you just want a stock design or just lettering, he can do that as well with no extra setup digitizing.

The last guy kept our info and I told him to just do the work for anyone interested, but it can be restricted to 1 buyer or just club members if desired.

Anyone wishing to design a logo or make suggestions, can post it here or send it to me and I will do so.  We may as well vote on a new version so it will take a while.

Once again Gary seems to be the only one interested in doing things like this for the club. How about we back him up and all decide on a pattern at a GTG and all chip in for the set up costs. That way any one wanting some thing made up can just go to the store and get what ever they want done. Dan

I'm in...  though given that I have the artistic talent of a wrecking ball, about all I can contribute are opinions and part of the set-up costs.  :)

I still have the original pattern on a T shirt that has been very seldom worn for an example. Dan

Chances are this could be scanned and converted to vector format and reworked if need be....

or start from scratch!

I think a fresh start with something simple would be best.

I'm not the only one at this, as others have expressed an interest in something to show off with.  >:D  I just happened to pass the shop and dropped in.

Maybe a club straight jacket with logo and 'fieromaniac' embossed.  Sizes S - M - L - XL and sleeves available XXXXXXXL only.  Stupid cars.

I think it's a good idea... I had actually been talking to Don about it over the summer, but after seeing how well it seemed to go the last time you tried to do this Gary I didn't think there'd be much point.

Getting badges done up I think would be best... then people can put them on whatever they actually want.

Gary I'd be willing to give a hand with coming up with a design for it.  Maybe we could post pics of possible designs and see which one people prefer.

Just a thought.

We could instead make up an image that can be transferred to a t-shirt or something like that.  No embroidery.  That way the set up cost is nothing and someone can buy the t-shirt transfer paper at the local Staples and print it off on their printer at home.  Then just iron it onto whatever you want.

Could be better to start with?

Should be able to do it with any image.  The machines take a specific format thats usually been converted from some sort of image format in my experience.

I've done this a few times.  If the paper is fresh and you have a good (mine sucks) ink jet printer, you can get fair results.  The image tends to fade and get crackly pretty fast.  The commercial operations use specific ink I suspect as the images are a lot thicker.

Not bad for a small Fiero image with your name on a t-shirt.

With the embroidery, you are charged by stitch count.  Doing a full image is using lots (& lots & lots & lots) of stitches. I saw a full picture for the back of a leather jacket done by on of the hot rod guys.  It was beautiful, but cost something like 350.00 just to make up.

You admited in this thhread even that you haven't worn the t-shirt much.  Or is that just one of them?

I did a couple of shirts with the little cartoon GT that used to be in the header of the forum.  One was white, one yellow.  My well water spit up something on the white one and my angle grinder tried to eat me and the brave little tshirt saved me.  They have become work shirts.

I have a button up shirt that I sometimes wear, and another white T with a small club name and logo on the front.

Also made a couple of sets of tags to go on seat belt pads with forum names (not mine) for some guys.  Replaces the ricer logos and just iron on (can be sewn on as well)

I'll admit that the embroidered ones look waaaay better.  I have a long sleeve shirt and a jacket done with the old style.

We have a decent colour printer that should work for doing iron-on's if that's the route people would rather go.

Personnally I would rather go with the embroidered ones... they definitely stand up to the washer and dryer better.

We have a couple of shirts from a motorcycle rally we went to in june that were done with iron-on's and they are already cracking.

I think it's a great idea.  I'm in.

Is it embroidered clothing we want or a patch we can put on a jean jacket and stuff?

Cheers, Derek

Should it be a "Ottawa Fiero Club" logo, or should we see about hooking up with the other clubs in the Province to make it an "Ontario Fiero Club" logo, keeping in mind not all of us are Ottawa folks.  ;)

Cheers, Derek

What about this for a logo idea:

Model an Ontario Fiero Club logo after the Oranage County Chopper logo.  The "O" and the "C" could be front and back tires and the "F" stylized to resemble the top of a Fiero.

Cheers, Derek

Just a couple of FYI's:

1.  I've posted a message on the GT Fiero Forum (the new GTA site) to see if there is any interest in an "Ontario" logo.

2.  I've included a couple of pics of my kewl jacket...THANK YOU GARY!!!   O0  I wear this jacket all the time, including to work.

Cheers, Derek

I personally like the logo that is on the jacket...
