Title: trunk switch not working
Post by: lacelles on September 07, 2006, 03:01:32 pm
Small problem

When I press on the trunk switch, I hear a buzzing noise under the dash and the trunk doesn't open.  ???

Any Idea ....

Remove the trim panel under the dash, and you'll find a relay under there somewhere.  If you can't find it, hold the decklid release button and look for the part which is buzzing.  :)

Try swapping that relay with the horn relay from the "convenience center".  If the decklid release works after that and your horn doesn't, let me know and I'll bring a replacement along for you tomorrow.

Hi Don

Well, I did found the trunk relay.  The buzzing noise is coming from the relay...  I didn't try the horn relay replacement.  But one thing I know that my solinoid is working because I use my alarm system remote and I'm able to open the trunk.

Don can you bring your spare relay with you tomorrow?  I will buy it from you.

Thanks

Found the relay; couldn't find any decent trunk light lenses though.  See you this afternoon!

Would dirty contacts or a short cause the light to stay on?

Cheers, Derek

Test the switch on the instrument pod next.  Pull it out, disconnect, and short the orange wire to...   crap, can't remember the other color and the site with online diagrams I had bookmarked is down.  It should be in the back of your friendly neighbourhood Haynes manual though.   Two wires run the switch's illumination, the other two are a +12v supply and the feed to the relay.

Which light?  I remember you mentioning it at the last GTG, but I didn't catch which light it was....

Hi Don, the lights are the 2 middle lights on the roof light.  Also if I press on the switch to open both side, they don't work.  I took the roof light off, and everything looks ok inside.

Two more questions then...  :)

First, have you checked whether or not you've accidentally rolled the instrument panel dimmer switch up in to the position which turns on the courtsey lights?

Second, by any chance did the lights start staying on around the same time as the decklid relay started buzzing?

Hi Don,  No, That's the first thing I have check, the dimmer switch

Yes, Don, the decklid relay started buzzing around the same time.

Yes, Don, the decklid relay started buzzing around the same time.

Strangely co-incidental, that is.  If you haven't done so already, double-check that you haven't blown the CTSY/LID fuse.

Failing that, start looking for either a failed ground or something which is shorting to ground (and shouldn't be).

Just follow the power and check for it.

WELLLLLLLLLL  O0

After taking apart all door jam switch, hood jaw switch, check every wire under the dash, reading wiring diagram (tried to understand them  :-[).  After 2 hours of frustration, decided to do some searches on different forums... Everything goes back to fuses..  Decided to check the fuses...  Should have done that the first time..  :-[

Yes fuse 25 amp CTSY/LID was burnt....  ??? :o :( >:( :-[

Now I still have about 1hour work to put everything back together...
Well f@#$#k it for tonight I'm going to bed....
