Title: Replacement fan switch for 2.8
Post by: dguy on July 03, 2006, 07:20:24 am
Before I install this thing and end up on the "no returns on customer-installed electrical components" side of the street...

Radiator fan swtich for the 2.8:  NAPA dealer gave me NAPA/Echlin part number TS4015.  Instead of a single wire switch which closes to ground through the intake manifold, this one has two wires and comes wtih a replacement weatherpak pigtail.  One wire is to be spliced in to the original fan switch circuit, and the other grounded.  Supposedly the old style connector and grounding method were troublesome.   ???

In any case, what little information I can find about this device consistently lists is as a sensor, not a switch.  Reassuringly, when checked with an ohm meter at room temperature it shows an infinite resistance between the two pins instead of the measureable value which one would expect from the ECT.  I'd like to think that this is just another case of automotive semantics, but...

Anyone have an experience with this?   :-\

Got it.

NAPA part number for the fan switch is ECH FS110.

TS4015 is actually a generic thermistor which meets GM's spec for both a MAT and CTS.  Somehow I don't think that would have worked.  ;)

All switches should read infinite when open!

The old system was especially troublesome when the mechanic installing the switch used copious amounts of teflon tape.

I prefer the two wire sensors, I would have installed that one.  They are easier to troubleshoot too.
