Title: Hey yeller Post by: 2ML67 on September 06, 2005, 09:47:58 am Did you find out any thing more about that 3800SC you dropped off over the weekend. Wife wants to know if you made it home ok, she said it sounded like your truck barely was able to make it up my hill. Dan

Title: Re: Hey yeller Post by: 2ML67 on September 11, 2005, 01:04:50 pm Brian tore that L67 down and it is not good. Took off the oil pan and found a lot of little pieces of the #4 piston in it. Actually all of the piston just in little pieces no bigger than my thumb. Would reccomend you brother make sure his fuel pump is ok as this usually happens when a lean condition causes bad KR to destroy a piston. Took some pictures will send them to you once I get them developed. As for the block their is a lot of deep gouging in the #4 cylinder so in my opinion this thing is junk as far as a rebuild goes. Found metal filings every where even up around the rockers. Super charger may still be ok though as it does not come in direct contact with the engines oil. Basically scratch one 3800SC. Dan
Title: Re: Hey yeller Post by: 2ML67 on September 11, 2005, 03:54:03 pm Update found three more pistons with pieces missing, even found chunks of piston in the EGR hole in the intake. This thing definetely flew apart quite nicely kind of scary considering this was a totally stock well maintained engine which saw very little abuse. Dan

Dan This is what concerns me. Brother is now looking at a Mitsubishi ? with the 10 year warrenty. Title: Re: Hey yeller Post by: 2ML67 on September 12, 2005, 02:15:32 pm Did your brother own this car since new or did some one else abuse it before him. I inspected the super charger and it looks like some thing is not right in it either. You can see gouging where the two pieces have been rubbing which is not good as they are supposed to be very close but not touch. Will take more pictures then send them to you once developed. Dan
Title: Re: Hey yeller Post by: GoFast88 on September 12, 2005, 02:45:59 pm He bought it used 4? years ago and the previous owner took exceptional care of it. Brother has always used synthetic oil in it and did regular oil changes. Didn't push it either (but didn't drive it like a little ol lady either on the 401).
Title: Re: Hey yeller Post by: 2ML67 on September 13, 2005, 08:25:02 pm Main concensus so far has been that he must of been running cheap low octane fuel which can cause detonation, that is why on the tank doors they warn to use high octane fuel only.
Brian do you know if your brother was cheap enough to run the low stuff. What am I thinking he's your brother of course he did. HEE HEE Dan Title: Re: Hey yeller Post by: GoFast88 on September 14, 2005, 07:52:41 am Will ask him.
