Title: Does Someone Have A Lathe I Can Use??? Post by: BootMachine on December 02, 2003, 11:52:34 am I'm building a motor for my car and I wanna shave a little meat off the pullys......just to see what happens!
Is there someone out there who will lend me the use of their lathe for an hour or so? Title: Re:Does Someone Have A Lathe I Can Use??? Post by: aaron88 on December 02, 2003, 05:24:12 pm There is a lathe at my work but a few years ago someone smashed into it with something really heavy, so now it doesn’t turn about a good fixed point. It wobbles a good 25 thou or so. Therefore it’s no good for taking off small amounts of material or for refinishing material.
I don’t recommend you use it for your application. But I should have a lathe of my own in a year or so. You’re welcome to use that one Aaron . Title: Re:Does Someone Have A Lathe I Can Use??? Post by: BootMachine on December 03, 2003, 11:41:32 am What did they hit it with???
A TANK! That lathe is the biggest one I have ever seen...well..in real life anyway... As if it does not work properly...thats sad....so expensive too! That lathe is SOOO nice! Just did a little calculation....because I use metric...its only off by less then 1/2 a MM. Can I try it out anyway and see what happens? I mean....by buddy did it with a vice and a grinder and his is OK...so this cant be that bad !!! ;D Title: Re:Does Someone Have A Lathe I Can Use??? It's actually off by more than a half mm but not more than 1mm. I'll be at the shop on Tuesday night. Aaron . Title: Re:Does Someone Have A Lathe I Can Use??? Post by: BootMachine on December 05, 2003, 02:44:53 pm 1mm is ok too!
If it flies off the engine and smashes into a million pieces I have another one I can use anyway! I would VERY MUCH appreciate your assistance with this small project....and also I want another look around your massive shop!!! ;D Sorry I didnt get back on here earlier....when is a good time for you? |
