Title: Fiero overheated while I was at the meeting!
Post by: maxx on September 07, 2003, 01:15:48 am
LOL! This is ironic: I was at the meeting talking to you guys and waiting for my girl to drop by with the car that is _finally_ on the road so I can finally show it off. Right. Things can't be that easy. The car overheated while she was on the highway on the way to the meeting. She pulled over and turned it off (good girl :). First of all, I checked all the fluid levels and they were all good last week. I just went over there and checked the coolant, it's empty now and there was a puddle under the overflow bottle. I refilled it and there's no leaks anywhere. Drove a couple of blocks and it overheated again. Pulled over and there's no leaks. So, I figure it's probably the termostat stuck closed. Can it be anything else? I'm planning on changing it tomorrow morning, is there anything else I should check? Thanks!

For your checklist:
  • Air in the cooling system can sometimes cause a vapour lock of sorts, and the coolant won't circulate.
  • Crushed coolant tubes.
  • Radiator full of bugs or other debris.  (don't laugh--it happens)
  • Lots of corrosion in the cooling system.
  • I've heard rumours that some water pumps for the 2.8 have cheesy plastic impellers which like to divorce themselves with the pump's shaft.
  • Radiator cap and/or thermostat cap aren't holding to the pressure which they should be.
Hope this helps!
