Title: Remote shut-down via text message
Post by: dguy on April 17, 2009, 11:29:51 am
I thought that this was a cool idea.  Students at the University of Sask. have developed a method through which you can shut a car down via text message.

Linky (http://www.cbc.ca/consumer/story/2009/04/16/cell-phone-anti-theft-123.html).

Reader's digest:  Add a bit of telecommunications hardware to the car, and send it (the car) a shut-down text message.  The hardware will first trick the ECM in to enabling limp mode for 30 seconds, followed by a full shut-down.

That's not new.  My buddy also incorporated a cell phone smart car.  If the alarm goes off the car will call you and let you know the alarm is going off.  You don't even need extra coverage just as second phone set up as an emergency phone.  It looks like your calling yourself.  Secondly he can lock out his computer, turn off the car, lock the doors, roll up the windows etc...

It takes a while for most people to find uses for things already around.  That's all.

Cheers,

Aaron
