Wednesday Fiero Chat Instructions Thanks to Gene Vest ! There seems to be some confusion when it comes to getting to the Wednesday Fiero Chat. I had difficulty as well, not being an IRC user, until I figured it out last night. I will attempt to give detailed step-by-step directions to carry everyone through the entire process, but I could omit something (I know...hard to believe haha). If anyone has anything to ad, or knows an easier way, please chime in. This way, we will have a set of instructions to give anyone that attempts this for the first time. Since I did not have mIRC installed I will take you from the beginning. It works well, and is really simple to chat. 1. Go to this web address "http://www.fierodrivers.com/chat/index.html". Scroll down to just after the second paragraph and find the small button (picture) in the middle of the page. Click on this link to go to a download page. 2. You are now on this page "http://www.mirc.co.uk/get.html". Scroll down to the second paragraph and click on the blue letters identifying the type operating system you are using on your computer. Make sure you write down the file nane and what folder it goes into so you can find it for installation later. 3. Go to the folder where you downloaded the program and double click on it to start the installation. You need to stay connected to the internet during this process. Follow the default settings during the installation and you will have no difficulties. If it stays open for you, omit step 4 below. You will have to enter a nickname to sign on. 4. Go to the mIRC folder, or wherever you installed the program. Open it up with the mIRC icon, the "pac man thing". :-) 5. After it opens, click on the file menu at the top, and go down and click on "Setup". Click on the "IRC Servers" tab and you will see a selection box just below the "Add, Edit, Delete, and Sort" buttons. Click on the arrow to the right of this box. 6. Scroll down until you come to the XWorld servers, click on any one of them, and click on "Connect to IRC Server" button just below the box. 7. A "Channel Folder" should open up. If it does not, look across the top of the screen and you will see an entire row of icons (small pictures). The fourth one over (at least on mine) has a picture of a folder with a #+ on it. You can also see the purpose of each by resting your pointer on an icon and getting a description. Click to open the channel folder. 8. Type in "#fiero" without the quotation marks, then click on the button to the right that says "Join". You will enter the chat. 9. Locate your cursor in the bottom space by clicking there with you mouse, type away, and hit "Enter" or "Return". Walla! You are in business. :-) If anyone can make this more clear, plese do! Also, fill in anything I left out. We should not all assume that everyone knows how to move around the computer, and the simplest commands might be hard to understand for the novice (like me!). :-) Now, if you have read this far, you are either a novice, or are checking my work. If you are the latter, I have a problem. When I set up a signature file, it ends up adding it to my e-mail with double spaces. How do I correct that? Anyone can feel free to call or write, and I will try to help you...if I can. :-)
